Joep Geneste has signed his first professional contract with N.E.C. Nijmegen. The 19-year-old goalkeeper put pen to paper on a two-year deal on Monday afternoon.

The Nijmegen-born shot-stopper completed the full youth academy pathway at the club, having joined from partner club Oranje-Blauw at the age of eleven. Geneste has been part of head coach Dick Schreuder's squad this season and has regularly trained with the first team in recent years.

Technical director Carlos Aalbers highlighted the significance of the move for a local product. He said Geneste is a talented goalkeeper who has fully earned this contract himself. Aalbers added that it is especially pleasing to see a Nijmegen boy from the club's own academy sign a deal.

Geneste now officially joins the squad that secured a 1-1 draw against Ajax last Saturday. The team is currently on a run of five matches without a win, comprising three draws and two defeats.

The goalkeeper joins a group dealing with several absentees, including Ibrahim Hansen-Aaroen and Pedro Sandler. The current squad list and injury status are available on the site.
