N.E.C. Nijmegen's playmaker Sami Ouaissa is expressing his frustration over an ankle injury and rumors surrounding it, emphasizing that he is fit for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Olympiakos. Despite recent rumors suggesting he was using the injury as an excuse to push through a transfer, Ouaissa strongly denies these claims and stresses that he is not someone who fakes injuries.
Ouaissa played a crucial role in NEC's success last season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist while driving the team to their historic third-place finish in the Eredivisie. His form has attracted interest from clubs like PSV and Feyenoord. However, his current focus is on helping the team in their upcoming Champions League match against Olympiakos.
"I want to help the team as much as I can with what I am able to do," Ouaissa said, frustrated by the timing of his injury. "It is shit, the timing too."
The 21-year-old left-footer acknowledges that he has been injured and still feels some pain but remains determined to contribute to the team's success. He hopes to be fit enough for Tuesday’s match at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus.
"At a certain point I started to get seriously irritated," Ouaissa continued. "I thought: unnecessary. People who really know me know that I am not going to fake an injury. Whatever my plans are, I need to be fit. Why would I not train and not play matches? Especially not for that long?"
Oeaussia's contract with N.E.C. runs until mid-2028, and he remains committed to the club despite the challenges posed by his injury.
"But anyway, people can say what they want. I am happy to be back, and even if it is with a bit of pain, I am still trying to help the team," Ouaissa said.
