N.E.C. Nijmegen completes loan deal for Gabriel Brás
N.E.C. Nijmegen has reached a loan agreement with FC Porto for the 22-year-old defender Gabriel Brás. The Portugal youth international joins to address the club's long-standing defensive issues. According to Voetbal International, the deal includes an option to buy.
Why does N.E.C. Nijmegen need Brás?
Coach Dick Schreuder has repeatedly stated that his team lacks depth in defense. This was evident in the opening round against Telstar, where Schreuder had to improvise. Brás, valued at two million euros by FC Porto, is expected to change that. He has six caps for Portugal U21 and featured in Porto's preseason preparations.
What does this mean for N.E.C. Nijmegen's future?
With Brás' arrival, N.E.C. Nijmegen hopes to resolve its defensive problems. The club is also finalizing the transfer of goalkeeper Nikolas Polster, who will compete with Gonzalo Crettaz. Neither player will be available for Tuesday's Champions League qualifier against Olympiakos Piraeus.
What's next for Brás?
For Brás, this is an opportunity to gain playing time. He has yet to make his official debut for FC Porto but impressed in preseason. With the approval of coach Francesco Farioli, former Ajax manager, he now gets a chance in the Eredivisie.
