NEC Nijmegen rebounded perfectly from their false start against Telstar, beating Willem II 4-1. Adam Tahaui, who got his first start with Sami Ouaissa out for the foreseeable future, rewarded manager Dick Schreuder's trust by scoring the opener in the first minute of added time, beating reserve goalkeeper Karst de Leeuw with a header.
Veterans Tjaronn Chery and Bryan Linssen added to Willem II's sorrows in the second half, while Kaj Sierhuis earned NEC a 4-0 lead in the 67th minute with a classy volley. Thomas Verheydt got Willem II on the scoreboard, but it was a goal for the statistics as NEC played the perfect warm-up game before their UCL play-off against Bodo/Glimt.
