N.E.C. Nijmegen has signed 23-year-old national defender Ahmetcan Kaplan on a four-year contract. The transfer, which strengthens the Eredivisie club, was officially completed on 20 August 2026.
New signing
Kaplan, who spent the previous season on loan at NEC, is now permanently in the club. The defender, who played 30 matches and scored two goals for the club, will wear number 22.
Contract details
The contract, running until 2028, makes Kaplan a permanent fixture in the centre-back line. The club aims to compete in the Champions League and sees Kaplan as a key role in the defence.
Recovery and return
Kaplan is dealing with an existing injury. The medical staff at N.E.C. will continue treatment and rehabilitation. Technical director Carlos Aalbers expects Kaplan to return to the field after the international break in September.
Team context
With Emre Mor and Dusan Tadic in the squad, Kaplan adds depth to the defensive line. The club stresses that the transfer is the result of years of preparation.
Future expectations
Kaplan’s arrival is viewed as a step toward a stronger defensive foundation. The club hopes he will play a crucial role in both the Eredivisie and international competitions.
