N.E.C. Nijmegen Sierstappen naar Ajax-defensieve Speler Ahmetcan Kaplan

Eredivisie-outfit NEC Nijmegen is making bold moves to secure the services of Ahmetcan Kaplan, the 23-year-old center-back from Ajax. Local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland reports that the club has renewed its interest in acquiring Kaplan on a permanent basis, as part of their ongoing squad reconstruction process.

Last season, Kaplan played an important role with NEC Nijmegen while on loan at De Goffert, under the guidance of head coach Dick Schreuder. Despite Ajax’s initial asking price being too high for NEC earlier in the summer transfer window, the club has now opened discussions anew to bring the left-footed defender permanently into their squad.

Currently under contract with Ajax until mid-2027, Kaplan faces limited playing opportunities in Amsterdam due to stiff competition from other defenders such as Daley Blind, Youri Baas, and Dies Janse. Prior to NEC’s latest pursuit, Turkish side Trabzonspor had made an offer of six million euros plus bonuses, which Kaplan declined as he preferred not to return to his home country.

If successful, this deal would represent the second significant acquisition for N.E.C. Nijmegen in quick succession. The Gelderland club has already reached a preliminary agreement with Serbian forward Dusan Tadic, who is expected to undergo medical examinations before officially joining the team.
