N.E.C. Nijmegen has announced that goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen will be leaving the club. Cillessen made this known via his personal Instagram page, stating that he will not extend his contract by another year. The current agreement of the 37-year-old goalkeeper expires at the end of June. Despite lengthy negotiations between Cillessen and N.E.C. Nijmegen, both parties were unable to reach a new contract. Cillessen returned to N.E.C. Nijmegen in the summer transfer window of 2025, having previously gone through the youth academy and played 108 matches for the first team. In his statement, Cillessen expressed his hope for a contract of at least two years, with the possibility of taking on a role as a goalkeeper coach within the club. He thanked the club and the supporters for their support throughout the past season. It remains unclear what Cillessen's future will hold; he may look for a new club or decide to retire from football. Last season, he played eight matches for N.E.C. Nijmegen and kept two clean sheets. Cillessen has also played for clubs such as Ajax, FC Barcelona, and Valencia, and he has made 65 appearances for the Dutch national team.
