Feyenoord seems to have no chance of getting Dick Schreuder, the coach of N.E.C. Nijmegen. Schreuder has internally announced that he wants to stay in Nijmegen, sources tell SoccerNews. Feyenoord fired Van Persie, looking for a new coach. Sunday it became known that the paths of Feyenoord and Robin van Persie are parting ways. The club icon became trainer in Rotterdam-Zuid halfway through last season. The last Eredivisie season led the club to second place and therefore directly to Champions League football. With the departure of Dennis te Kloese as technical and general director and the arrival of Dévy Rigaux as technical man plus Robert Eenhoorn for general affairs, a new wind blew in De Kuip. That wind cost Van Persie after a thorough season evaluation the top spot. Rigaux and Eenhoorn are of course busy behind the scenes with a successor. Names like Sébastien Pocognoli, Pascal Jansen and even Oliver Glasner passed the review. A man in the Eredivisie who is potentially in the running is Dick Schreuder. However, Feyenoord does not seem to need to knock on Schreuder's door. Schreuder will stay at NEC Sources tell SoccerNews that Schreuder has made up his mind for next season. He will probably stay at NEC and also next year in De Goffert will implement his vision. The 54-year-old coach has a contract with NEC until mid-2028. Feyenoord-watcher Martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International came Sunday with the statement that Schreuder was open to coming to Rotterdam-Zuid. However, it seems that the Dutch manager is not waiting for that and will probably stay in Nijmegen. Although, there is a small margin for error. The focus of Schreuder and NEC can now fully be on the upcoming season, with probably the 54-year-old attacking coach on board. The Nijmegeners want to try to force Champions League football. That will have to be done through the qualifying rounds of the billion-dollar tournament. In the football world, you never know, but for now it seems that clubs do not need to come to NEC with an interesting story for Schreuder. He seems to be staying put. Is Schreuder's choice smart?
