N.E.C. Nijmegen secured third place in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie in a spectacular fashion, defeating Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 and ending with a club record of 59 points. N.E.C. started strong in the match and took the lead after 12 minutes through Noé Lebreton. The midfielder became the man of the match by also scoring the 2-0. Lebreton became the first player since Dusan Tadic in February 2023 to score two goals and create seven chances in one Eredivisie match. N.E.C. played one of their most dominant matches of the season. The team recorded 37 shots and an Expected Goals value of 4.44, both the highest values for the club since Opta started collecting data in 2010/11. Tjaronn Chery also left his mark on the match. The midfielder created nine shots and ended the season as the player with the most shots in the competition: 107. However, it became exciting in Nijmegen after the break. Søren Tengstedt brought Go Ahead Eagles back into the match with his fourth competitive goal since the end of February. The visitors pressed for the equalizer, but N.E.C. held on in a nerve-wracking final phase. For Go Ahead Eagles, it was their second consecutive loss and the end of the season without a win in the last five competitive matches. The Deventenaren also had at least ten shots on goal for the second match in a row. At the final whistle, the party erupted in De Goffert. N.E.C. finished third in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie for the first time in club history and ended the best season ever at the highest level.
